About

Now in its tenth year, the Australian Bushfire Building Conference is the only event of its type for professionals involved in the planning, designing, building, landscaping, consulting, regulating, and certification of buildings in bushfire-prone areas.

The program will include formal presentations and keynote speakers, and although each session will be recorded, it will be an in-person only event this year. Ten years of making a difference in Bushfire Planning and Design shouldn’t go uncelebrated and we want to bring everyone together for this milestone event.

This year’s theme is A Decade of Learning: Sustainable Solutions, Enduring Legacy, and the conference will be held at the Fairmont Resort and Spa from 11 – 13 September 2024.

The event is presented by Blue Mountains Economic Enterprise (BMEE), a not-for-profit organisation for economic development in the Blue Mountains in partnership with Blue Mountains City Council.

Located in the picturesque Blue Mountains region

Following the success of 2023’s hybrid event, we’re thrilled to be returning this year as an in-person event held at the Fairmont Resort & Spa in the Blue Mountains.

The Fairmont Resort is a Blue Mountains icon and provides everything for a comfortable stay for delegates and their partners. With stunning views, bushwalks surrounding the resort and Leura Golf Course a short walk away there is something for everyone to enjoy during their stay.

History of the Australian Bushfire Building Conference

In 2013 we saw devastating and tragic losses due to the bushfires raging through New South Wales, particularly in the Blue Mountains region. In response, BMEE organised the first Bushfire Building Conference, held in 2015.

In 2016, Blue Mountains Economic Enterprise (BMEE) was the awarded the NSW Resilient Australia Award, which was presented by the New South Wales Government. The awards are a national program that recognises and rewards initiatives which strengthen community disaster resilience.

BMEE also won the Economic Development Australia Award for its work on the Australian Bushfire Building Conference.

Both awards recognise the Bushfire Building Conference’s role that the event has played in strengthening the community.

Since its inception, the event has not only grown in size, but also in focus. From being Blue Mountains-centric at the outset, to its current national focus. This means that more people can attend from all over the country.

Past Australian Bushfire Building Conference events

Following the devastating bushfires of 2019/2020, the 2020 Australian Bushfire Building Conference was held as a hybrid event. It was also the first of many virtual events, held in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our 2021 conference was planned as a hybrid event for August 2021, however due to nationwide lockdowns, the event had to be postponed until November 2021. Unfortunately, due to restrictions not lifting, the event was changed to a virtual event.

2022 and 2023 were huge successes as hybrid events, and we are thrilled to be welcoming delegates, exhibitors, sponsors, and speakers back in 2024.
